In a rare show of unity, the opposition parties created pandemonium in the Vidhan Sabha forcing the government to table the supplementary budget amid din. The House rushed through the day’s agenda even as opposition members raised anti-government slogans.

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey directed the government to complete the agenda of the day after the opposition members refused to relent. The House was later adjourned for the day around 12:45 hours.

The Bahujan Samaj Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress and the Rashtriya lok Dal members raised anti-government slogans and displayed banners and posters that read “Goondagardi nahi chalegi”, “Kisanon ko muaawaja do”, “Akhilesh hosh me aayo, Jungle raj par break lagao”, “SP ka  raj hai, goonda mafia mast hai”, and “Daroga raj nahi chalega”.

The day would be a complete washout was evident the way opposition geared up before the House assembled. The BJP, Congress and RlD members were already in the well of the House. And at 11 sharp, when the Speaker walked in, the BSP members  joined others too.

All opposition members started waiving flags, banners and posters. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav remained seated on his seat as  opposition members raised slogans against his government.

The Speaker tried to pacify members but they refused to relent. He then adjourned the House twice, the last time till 12:20 hours, thus scrapping the Question Hour.

When the House reassembled, the opposition continued to create a din. Akhilesh Yadav, who also holds the Finance department, tabled the supplementary budget of Rs 19,824 crore. Amidst the pandemonium, the government tabled three CAG reports and special reports of the government on the lokayukta’s report. The government also tabled two bills, while approving a resolution to be sent to the Centre to end manual scavenging.

During the Zero Hour, the Speaker asked opposition members to go back to their seats. The BSP members agreed but the BJP, RlD and Congress members did not budge.

leader of opposition Swami Prasad Maurya tried to speak on the poor law and order situation in the state but Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Azam Khan countered him saying that the previous BSP government had looted people of the state and the party should be punished.

This infuriated BSP members and they also rose on their feet and entered the well  of the House again.

It was the first working day of the UP Assembly’s monsoon session that commenced on August 14.
