Owaisi: No political party has worked for uplift of Muslims

In the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections this year, the war of words has intensified in the poll-bound state. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday attacked Samajwadi Party president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Taking a dig at Akhilesh Yadav’s dream statement, the AIMIM chief said, “Bharatiya Janata Party sees Ram and Akhilesh see Krishna. In Akhilesh Yadav's dream, when Lord Krishna said that you are becoming chief minister, then what is the need for elections? Just say that I have told God to make me the chief minister now.''

Owaisi hit out at the political parties in the state and said that none of them had worked for the uplift of Muslims.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Owaisi said, “Even in my dream, Muslims from Muzaffarnagar are coming and saying that they will no longer vote for Samajwadi Party. They are asking me to raise voice for their rights. Majlis MLAs will now win and go to the assembly and raise the slogans of Nara-e-Takdeer and Ambedkar zindabad inside the assembly.”

Owaisi said, 'I am fighting for the interests of Muslims but I am told that my party is a vote katwa. I have not come to cut the votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal fought in the alliance but won only 15 Lok Sabha seats. Mohammad Azam Khan and Shafikurrahman Burke of Samajwadi party won. But they won because of their strength not with the blessings of the Samajwadi Party. If your votes were cast together why did the SP and the BSP win only 15 seats?''

Owaisi termed those who talked about eliminating Muslims as enemies of Bhimrao Ambedkar's Constitution. The AIMIM chief said, “I am a Muslim and I love my homeland.”

Owaisi made a presentation on ‘Muslims in Uttar Pradesh: Development, Security & Inclusion’, Owaisi alleged, "There has been injustice with the Muslims of Uttar Pradesh. No government in the state worked for the welfare of the Muslims of the state."

Owaisi further said that the political parties kept gaining Muslim votes by appeasement.

"The political parties kept gaining their votes by appeasement. The change has to come. We will present this report to the people of the state, and then they can decide who is using them," he said.

Uttar Pradesh is slated to go to the assembly polls this year.
