The Chief Minister's Fellowship Scheme, launched to take advantage of the experience, enthusiasm and innovative ideas of young research scholars, has received an overwhelming response in the state as IITians and NIT pass-outs have applied for it.

“More than 26,000 youth of the state have applied to join this ambitious scheme. The high point is that students of reputed institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) also want to work at the block level as a large number of researchers from these institutions have also applied for the Chief Minister's Fellowship Scheme,” a government spokesman said in a statement issued here on Saturday.

According to the information received, a large number of people whose applications have been received by the Planning Department include PhD holders, high-qualified research scholars like MTech and MArch.

The Uttar Pradesh government had recently started a scheme in which youth would work at the village level to find out the impact of the delivery system of the government.

Planning Department Secretary Alok Kumar said so far 26,684 research scholars had applied under the Chief Minister's Fellowship Scheme. He said a team of senior officials was scrutinising the applications after which 300 to 400 research scholars would be called for an interview and out of these 100 would be finally selected.

“The tenure of the selected candidates will be for one year,” he said.

The research scholars will get benefits like Rs 30,000 per month, besides Rs 10,000 as TA and Rs 15,000 for purchase of mobile phone or tablet. These research scholars will work in the agriculture, rural development, Panchayat Raj, forest, environment and climate, education, health and Sanitation, nutrition, skill, energy and renewable energy, tourism, and data governance sectors and in cultural heritage cities.
