Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that overbridges constructed at various parts of Lucknow to ease traffic would not only save time but also save petrol.
He was speaking at a function in Dhanuk Basti in Aishbagh in Lucknow, his parliamentary constituency, on Tuesday.
“Construction of seven overbridges has been completed and work is in progress on other overbridges. After the completion of the 104-kilometre-long ring road and the overbridges, passengers from any corner of India will not have to enter the city. Apart from this, Rs 1,300 crore has been approved for the international airport and with its construction, when people from all over the world will come and stay here, employment will be generated in the city which in turn will increase the purchasing power of the people.” Singh said while addressing the people.
Besides discussing the development plans of Lucknow, the achievements of the Central and state governments were also discussed.
Addressing another meeting in Rajajipuram, Singh said he had come to know the views of the people and the problems they were facing so that these could be solved.
“After I was elected as MP from Lucknow, I realised that the biggest problem people are facing is traffic jams. We are working on this. We found the solution in the form of overhead bridges and ring road,” the local MP said and added that continuous work was also being done for the development of railway and airport.
He also talked about the construction of the BrahMos missile and said the unit would function within the next 3-4 years.
Assuring the people that every promise he had made would be fulfilled, Singh said that in the political system there was a trust deficit but it was only the Bharatiya Janata Party that had fulfilled what it had said.
To buttress his point Singh said: “Look at the BJP manifesto of 2014 and 2019. There is not a single promise we had made which has not been fulfilled. I want to bring the branch of Chandigarh University to Lucknow. They need huge land, which is not available in Lucknow, so work is being done in Unnao,” he said.
During the dialogue, the citizens demanded construction of a bridge over the Hyder canal, and a connected bridge from Rajajipuram to Lemon Park.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, former deputy chief minister Dr Dinesh Sharma, BJP city president and MLC Mukesh Sharma, Mayor Samyukta Bhatia, and media -charge Praveen Garg were present in the meeting.
