Uttar Pradesh crossed a significant landmark on December 14, with more than six crore people (6,00,98,784) receiving both doses of Covid vaccine so far.
The most populous state has so far administered over 17.94 crore doses of vaccine to residents. In addition, the state has also achieved the landmark of administering the first dose of Covid vaccine to nearly 81 per cent of the eligible adult population, while over 41 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated in the state.
In the light of the emergence of the new novel coronavirus variant ‘Omicron’, the state government has expedited its vaccination coverage across the state. As per latest figures on CoWIN, Uttar Pradesh has administered 11.93 crore first doses of the vaccine so far and more than six crore second doses.
With the second wave of COVID-19 under control in the state, the demand to get vaccinated remains high as it is the only option to fight the invisible enemy and the new variant of coronavirus. Aggressive vaccination has been an integral part of the comprehensive strategy of the Yogi Adityanath government to contain the spread of the virus.
“Ramping up of daily testing to detect the virus has helped in the fight against the second COVID-19 wave. True to the spirit of trace, test, and treat policy, daily sample testing has ranged between 2 lakh to 1.5 lakh in Uttar Pradesh. The state has tested a total of 8.98 crore samples for the coronavirus infection so far,” a government spokesman said.
Uttar Pradesh was the first state to have crossed the milestone of conducting eight crore Covid tests and testing was particularly ramped up to reach the rural pockets of the state. Due to the aggressive tracing, testing and treatment, UP’s positivity rate (TPR) — which shows the level of infections among people — stands at 0.01 per cent.
