The Opposition parties staged noisy walkout of the State Assembly during question hour on Wednesday over non payment of compensation to the farmers, whose agriculture produce were destroyed in rains as well as suicides committed by farmers in Bundelkhand region.

BSP demanded setting up of a technical committee to assess the loss to the potato farmers due to rains and hail storms.State Revenue minister Shivpal Singh Yadav, while replying to the question of Dharampal Singh (BSP), said that the loss was between 5 and 30 per cent and compensation could only be given for loss over 50 per cent.

This answer irked the BSP members who claimed that the loss was more than 80 per cent and government was just relying on the report of lekhpals. later the BSP members staged a noisy walkout.

In another question of BJP member Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, minister Shivpal Singh Yadav denied any suicide in Bundelkhand over loan harassment. But the BJP member claimed that there were several cases of suicides by the farmers as they were unable to pay the loan dues.

The minister said that the Samajwadi Party government has waived farmers’ loan worth Rs 1650 crores in 2012-13 benefiting 7.55 lakh farmers in 71 districts of the state. Of the total beneficiaries, 29,928 were from Bundelkhand region and they were given a waiver of Rs 62.82 crores.

Yadav also announced that government has issued a new Government Order (GO) that the interest of the loan of the farmers should not exceed the principle amount and if a farmer who has taken loan from land development banks and has paid 10 per cent of their loan, would be eligible for waiver. Not satisfied with this explanation the BJP members walked out of the House.

later the Congress members too followed them as Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey refused to allow them to speak. In other questions, Yadav said that the government was ready for probe into the illegal power connection. “If the connection is legal then regular poles would be set up but if it is illegal then strict action would be taken against the residents and power officials,” he said on a question of BJP member Shyamdeo Rai Choudhury.

State minister of state for health Shankh lal Manjhi, also informed the state assembly that government was making all out effort to control the deadly infection of Dengue in the state.

‘’In 2013 though there were 1414 infected people but only 5 died. In 2010 the highest death of  8 people were reported when the total infected number was 960,’’ he said while replying to a question of BJP member Jyostna Srivastava.
