The Monsoon Session of legislative Council began amidst uproar after entire Opposition parties joint hand to protest against the Mathura clashes and the Bulandshahr highway road hold-up and gang rape incident, disrupting proceedings in the Upper House on Monday.
As soon as the Upper House assembled, members of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Teachers’ group, RlD and some Independents trooped into the Well and raised slogans displaying banners against the state government. They were agitated over the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, including the Bulandshahr rape incident and Mathura clashes in which a gazetted rank officer along with an inspector were killed. Amidst noisy scenes, the House was first adjourned for 15 minutes and later the Chairman postponed the proceeding till noon.
When the House reassembled, Chairman Ramesh Yadav read out condolence messages paying tributes to former members, including Munna Singh Chauhan, Raj Kishore Mishra and Radhey Shyam Nishad. Hardly had he completed the obituary reference, Opposition members once again stormed into the Well and raised anti-government slogans. The Chairman’s repeated request to members to take their seats went unheeded, forcing him to adjourn the House for the day.
