Opposition leader says development in the state has come to a naught

Tearing apart the State Government’s claims of good governance, leader of opposition Vidhan Sabha Swamy Prasad Maurya said that development in the state has come to a naught with people craving for power and security from goonda patronized by the ruling party leaders.

“Where is developmentIJ What we see is old wine in new bottle. The Akhilesh Yadav Government has just changed the label of the projects launched by the previous Mayawati Government and is trying to sell them off to the people as SP’s USP,” Maurya said while initiating a debate on Governor’s address in Vidhan Sabha hereon Thursday.

He said that Mayawati had launched Mahamaya pension Yojana. This Government first changed its name to Rani laxmi Bai Yojana and then to Samajwadi Pension Yojana. “Now, this pension scheme is government’s biggest selling point. Whereas technically it is just the extension of previous scheme of the BSP Government,” he said.

He also questioned the Government over much publicized construction of six-lane Greenfield Expressway between Agra and lucknow. Everywhere government talks about this scheme but is silent on construction of roads in villages and linking villages with the state highways. “The highway between Agra and lucknow can wait. First the people need good commutable roads in rural areas. This Government does not believe in development of villages. It is only talking about Agra-lucknow expressway all the time,” he said.

From the treasury benches the debate was initiated by Dr Sangram Yadav and was seconded by Tej Narain Pandey. Both the members talked about development in different sectors. They claimed that the state was galloping to the path of development because of pro-development schemes adopted by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

leader of Opposition gave a rebuttal point-by-point and said there is much differences between that they (ministers) preach and what exactly they do. “Government talks about improvement in medical facilities but the fact is that patients are still purchasing medicines from the market. The machines in the hospital are not working. Government has no plans to improve health care facilities in the hospital,” he said.

He also talked about poor law and order situation in the state and elaborated as how women and girls fear moving out of their houses after dusk. “What happened in Saharanpur is clear example of police apathy. The criminals are now moving around carrying AK-47. This speaks volumes about the law and order situation in the state,” he said.

Maurya also talked about truant electricity and reminded Chief Minister about the promise he had made to people about providing adequate power. “This Government has failed to fulfill its promises. Therefore, it is trying to sell dreams through canards,” he said.
