The self immolation of a teenage girl and death of a youth in police firing when irate mob was staging protest has sparked shard reaction from the opposition parties as they claim that Akhilesh Yadav Government has failed to control crime and has demanded a CBI probe into the issue.

BJP state president Dr laxmi Kant Bajpai said that it is the right time Akhilesh Yadav should relinquish Home department to someone else as he has failed to control crime. The crime against women is on the rise. The girls are being subjected to humiliation and have now no option left and are committing suicide,” he said.

The BSP on the other hand said that goonda raj prevails in UP. “The government should lodge case against the police who open fire at the people protesting against the self immolation of the girl,” senior BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya said.

“What was the fault of those innocent villagers. They were demanding arrest of the criminals who were harassing the girl. Instead of arresting them the police was giving protection to the criminals,” Maurya said.

Tension prevailed in the Bimbar area of Hamirpur district after a 17-year-old girl immolated herself following molestation and death of a youth in the police firing on Saturday. After the death of the girl, irate mob attacked the Bimbar police station and torched several vehicles including that of the policemen.

The Uttar Pradesh Congress demanded CBI probe in the case of self-immolation of a girl owing to eve teasing and the death of a youth in police firing in Hamirpur district.

A committee headed by ex- union minister Pradip Jain Aditya met the kin of the deceased girl and youth in Hamirpur and accused the district administration of this barbaric action. “The law of the land does not prevail in UP. The women are subject to humiliation and incidents of rape and murder galore. The poor girl in Hamirpur was forced to set herself on fire because she knew she will not get justice from police,” Jain said in a release issued here on Sunday.

He said that police is hand in glove with the Samajwadi Party leaders. They cannot bring the guilty to book as high and mighty are involved in this crime. Thus, the case should be handed over to CBI so that the truth could come to the fore,” Jain said

He also demanded compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the kins of the deceased, dismissal of fraudlent cases against outraged mob and medical aid to the injured people.

Uttar Pradesh Congress formed a committee as per the guidelines of the State President Nirmal Khatri to probe this matter.
