Opposition hits out at Akhilesh govt over Bulandshahr gang rape

Published on:
Opposition parties attacked the ruling Samajwadi Party government for the brutal gang rape of two women and a teenaged girl in Bulandshahr charging that the gruesome incident vindicated that 'jungleraaj' prevailed in UP.
"The SP government and the party chief owe an explanation to the people if they can return the modesty of women in such a traumatic and horrendous crime," BSP chief Mayawati said. She alleged that there was complete 'jungleraaj' in UP and criminal elements were ruling the roost.  She charged that rising incidents of heinous crimes bear testimony to the rapid deterioration in law and order in UP.
Demanding strict action against culprits, Mayawati said that action should be taken against policemen for laxity as well. She alleged the apathy / laxity has become all pervasive in the UP Police due to rampant casteism promoted by the SP government.
Meanwhile, hitting out at the Akhilesh Yadav government, Union minister Mahesh Sharma said, "When will this end IJ It shows that the SP government has collapsed on every front. They can not save the honour of a mother , a daughter. It is shameful and they should step down."
State BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya demanded resignation of CM Akhilesh Yadav and said that the incident has proved that law and order has collapsed in the state.
"It is unbelievable that the incident occurred merely two km from Bulandshahr city and the family was held hostage for 4 hours and the women were raped at gun point. It's a slap on the face of police administration, which makes tall claims of ensuring safety of people," he said.
BJP MP from Bulandshahr Bhola Singh said, "It  is a sad and painful incident. My sympathies with the family. I have spoken to the police and the administration. Those guilty should be handed out stringent punished."
"When a woman accompanied by her family is  not safe, how would those women travelling alone be safe IJ Under SP rule, even the streets are not safe, let alone the highways. In villages, girls and women cannot go out of homes... it's ’goonda raj'," he said.
Describing the incident as 'chilling', 'barbaric' and one that has 'shocked human conscience', the state Congress said that the SP government must take decisive action. "The gang rape heart-rendering, it's shocking.  The way a woman an her daughter were raped in front of the male members are indeed traumatic. It is a chilling commenatry on how barbaric human beings can become," Congress spokesman Satyadeo Tripathi said.
"What is the Samajwadi party and Akhilesh government going to do about it IJ Please, for heaven's sake, take decisive action and punish the perpetrators of the ghastly crime at the earliest," he said.
Two women and a 14-year-old daughter were traveling from Noida to Shahjahanpur along with their family on  Friday night when robbers waylaid them on NH 91 near Dostpur village (Bulandshahr) and brutally raped them after dragging them to a nerby field. So far 15 people have been detained and the main accused identified. The police have launched a  manhunt to arrest the perpetrators with the CM giving  the police '24 hours time' to net the miscreants.
