The question hour in Vidhan Sabha was washed out as Congress and RlD stalled the proceedings of the House on sugarcane issue drawing a sharp reaction from Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Azam Khan who said some parties were making efforts to convert UP assembly into lok Sabha.
“Please do not convert UP assembly into lok Sabha. Do not stall the proceedings of the House everyday. People’s hard earned money is being wasted by these antics,” Azam Khan said as Congress members created din in the House.
The Congress and the RlD members squatted in the well of the House demanding an assurance from the government that it will take action against the mill owners who have failed to clear the arrears.
“The Government has already given an assurance in this issue. What else Congress wants,” senior Minister Ambika Chaudhry was heard saying to Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey as Congress and RlD members raised anti-government slogans.
Speaker requested the members to take their seat so that the agenda could be taken up. But the members refused to go back to their seats forcing the Speaker first adjourning the House for 20 minutes and later extended it to 12.20 hours thus washing out the question hour.
When the House re-assembled and Congress continued with slogan shouting Azam Khan lost his cool and said that he had objected to extension of the monsoon session by two days. “look what happened. The first day whole opposition created din and the House was adjourned for the day. The next day Congress stalled the proceedings and now again the drama continues. If this is the way House will function why
“When the opposition would play such a role, then what is the use of expending public money on running the house,” he said. “This ruckus is being created to come in media and earn some headlines,” he said.
