Opposition disrupts assembly proceedings over law and order situation

United Opposition created pandemonium in the Vidhan Sabha over law and order and irregularities in conduct of Panchayat elections forcing suspension of question hour on Tuesday. As the state assembly assembled for the day, the BJP and Congress members trouped into the well of the House raising anti-government slogans. They were carrying banners about poor law and order. They were joined by BSP and RlD members.

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey tried to persuade the members to go back to their seats so that the question hour could be taken up but the members refused to relent. The BJP members said that their Adjournment notice should be taken up immediately. They said the House wants to discuss prevailing law and order situation including harassment of media persons.

Amid that din BSP members staged a noisy walkout. After 12 minutes Speaker adjourned the House till 1230 hours. Meanwhile, in written answers Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who also holds Home portfolio, said that only 5 incidents of communal riots were reported between 2012 and October 2015. In 2012 three incidents of communal riots were reported in Bareilly, Faizabad and Mathura and one incident each in Muzaffarnagar (2013) and in Saharanpur (2014).

Answering another question of Ajai Kumar lallu Yadav also claimed that law and order situation in state has improved. He also elaborated on steps government has taken to strengthen law and order.
