Oppn created hurdles in passing of land acquisition, food security bills: Rahul

Published on:

After inviting controversy over his remarks on the issue of rejecting the Ordinance brought by the government to save convicted lawmakers from immediate disqualification, Rahul Gandhi again embarrassed the Party when he went on to accuse the Opposition for creating hurdles in way of clearing Bills on land Acquisition and Food Security.

He tried to capitalise on the issue during launch of his campaign for 2014 Parliament elections in the name of thank giving rally on the above two Bills in Aligarh and Rampur respectively.

leader of Opposition in the Parliament Sushma Swaraj was quick to react when he claimed that Rahul should know that his own Party minister Jairam Ramesh had thanked the entire Opposition for their support on clearing the land Acquisition Bill. She claimed that Opposition also supported the Food Security Bill even though it need’s several modications and alleged that Rahul is misguiding the public on the above Bills.

With an eye on minority vote bank, Rahul Gandhi also made a veiled attack both  on SP and BJP, alleging that some political forces were behind the recent Muzaffarnagar communal riots as they feel they cannot win without creating such conflicts.  "People are made to fight for political gains. If Uttar Pradesh is going behind, it is because people are divided here. Hindus and Muslims are made to fight each other. One caste is made to fight another”, he stated adding that the common people don't want to fight. ``I met both Hindus and Muslims and they claimed that they wanted to remain unite and work for development of the country but there are some political forces  who feel if there is no fight, they will not get votes”, pointed Rahul Gandhi while giving reason behind Muzaffarnagar riots without naming any political party except for SP government for it’s failure to control the situation. Rahul made the above claims while addressing in Aligarh and later in Rampur on Wednesday afternoon.

Exhorting people to unite for progress and development of the State, Congress Vice-President said that till they collectively question the democratically elected government for full five years on very issue till than they will not get their due. Attacking the State government for expressing its inability to implement food security scheme in the state,

Gandhi exhorted the people to exert pressure for their rights. "The food scheme is being implemented in the entire country but in UP foodgrains will not be available till the 2014 elections as the SP government thinks that if it will implement the scheme the people would give it a drubbing in the polls," Rahul said.  Terming the Food Act as a revolutionary measure, Rahul said the earlier slogan 'Aadhi roti khayenge, Congress ko

layenge' (will do with little food, but will bring Congress to power) will have to be changed to 'Bhar pet khayenge, Congress ko layenge' (will have a hearty meal and bring Congress to power). He said it was time to bring change in Uttar Pradesh as successive SP and BSP governments have given "zero" results. "We do not indulge in politics of violence between religions and castes. We practice politics of non-violence and development," he said.

Congress Yuvraj also lamented that Indian politics had seen such times when one had to select a time to speak the truth, as he did on the issue of rejecting the Ordinance brought by the government to save convicted lawmakers from immediate disqualification. He also took a dig at the Akhilesh government in the state saying it had made a lot of promises but fulfilled none and said it was only the Congress that can ensure speedy

development of the state through unity and harmony among all religions and castes. Making a direct interact with the Public Rahul questioned ``Kaya SP government had fulfilled all poll promises. Aare the laptops working...are the people getting employement...big promises had been made."  He claimed that the state government has distributed computers but there is no electricity. "Congress runs the government of farmers...UP has government of computers...computers however don't run as there is no power," Gandhi quipped adding that his party has always fought for the rights of the people and guaranteed right to employment, right to food, right to information and right to education. Referring to the RTI Act, Rahul said it should be used by the common man to enter the rooms of bureaucrats and politicians which are closed for him."If they do not give information (under the transparency law), they should be jailed," he said

Narrating his experience, Rahul said a woman came to me and said you have given us 50 per cent reservation in Panchayats now what about ParliamentIJ''I told her if you get 50 per cent in Parliament and Assemblies, the rest 50 per cent you'll get by controlling your husband - so women will have 100 per cent reservation,'' he quipped.   ''I want to make politics approachable for common people - people should be able to join political parties. Open the closed doors of the government and bureaucracy and put the common man there. Empower him with laws like RTI,'' he said adding that after the 2014 general elections, a "government of youth" will be formed which will "change the country".
