Opp slams UP Govt over introduction of UPCOC bill

The Opposition parties have criticised  the UP government  for they called the `draconian ‘’, “UP control of organized crime bill 2017 ‘’ saying it would be abused and misused by the BJP government in the state.  Opposing the bill, introduced in the state assembly on Wednesday, they said it would be abused and misused by the BJP government in the state to quell the voice of the Dalits and Muslim community.

The opposition said the bill once enacted as law would be misused by the state government. Opposition leaders alleged that the proposed law could be misused to settle political scores and feared it might be used to suppress minorities and marginalized sections of the people.  They said the proposed law would target political adversaries, minorities and others. The state cabinet recently approved the draft of the proposed legislation for effective check on organized crimes, mafia and white collared crimes.

Samajwadi party Chief Akhilesh Yadav demanded the withdrawal of the bill and claimed the Yogi Adityanath government was already misusing the law for communal and political reasons. The new bill, if passed, would only worsen the situation.

“The proposed law could be misused to settle political scores and it would be used to suppress minorities and other.   The BJP government is in the habit of working with vendetta against its political opponents   and the bill has been introduced only to muzzle the voice of the opposition’’, said the SP president.

“Officially the  law is proposed  to  combat the organized crime , the BJP government has clear political motives as the next lok Sabha elections are not far away’’  said the SP president adding “the proposed law will prove to be a nightmare for the  common people of the state’’.

Congress legislature Party leader Ajay Kumar lallu expressed concern over the section dealing with those trying to foment terror or dislodge a government violently. lallu said it would be used against political foes. The language used in the bill, especially in this regard, is a legal one but has all the scope of being misused against political persons and adversaries.

He said the bill has draconian provisions like the government could take over properties amassed through organised crime, with the permission of the court and those found involved in organised crime and having security cover would no longer be extended government
