Opp failed to give any fight on 13 mayoral seats

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s appeal to the masses to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s mayoral candidates and elect a Bharatiya Janata Party-led board was well-received by the people of Uttar Pradesh.

As a result, opposition parties have been completely excluded from certain boards while all the 17 mayoral seats have been secured by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In both Jhansi and the recently-created Shahjahanpur Municipal Corporation, not a single candidate from the Samajwadi Party emerged victorious as the voters preferred independent candidates over SP, BSP, and Congress Party candidates. For the first time BJP will form boards on its own in 13 municipal corporations.

BSP drew a blank in Kanpur, Varanasi and Bareilly while Congress could not open its accounts in Ayodhya and Saharanpur.

The BJP councilors constitute over 50 per cent of the board in 13 of 17 municipal corporations in the state. The party won 80 and 63 councillor’s seats in Lucknow and Kanpur respectively. The BJP candidates also bagged 63, 66, 56 and 58 seats out of 100 seats each in Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj and Agra respectively.

Besides, the party secured 42 out of 80 Councillor seats in Gorakhpur and 51 out of 80 Councillor seats in Bareilly.
