One held for raping a minor in Mathura

The police on Thursday arrested one person within hours of an alleged rape of a minor girl in Mathura's Gausana.

The accused, identified as Satish, is a resident of the Gausana village of Mathura, according to the police.

Acting on a tip-off, police swung into action and arrested the accused within 24 hours after Senior Superintendent of Police Shailesh Pandey ordered his arrest.

The accused had barged into the house of a neighbour in an inebriated state and committed the crime.

"A case has been registered against the accused under Section 452/376AB of the Indian Penal Code (punishment for rape on woman under 12 years of age) and 5M/6 of POCSO Act at Jamunapar police station," SP (City) Martand Prakash Singh said.

The 8-year-old girl is undergoing treatment.

Singh said that strict action would be taken after a medical examination of the girl was conducted.

Meanwhile the body of a student studying in Class 11, who went missing in Auraiya district, was found hanging on a tree in a ravine.

While the student could not be traced even after a long search by the relatives, the villagers grazing goats saw the body of the victim hanging from a tree. He was later on identified by the family members.

As soon as the police got information about the incident, the body was shifted for post-mortem. The family members suspected foul play but the police claimed it to be a case of a `suicide’ but the reason for the extreme step was not confirmed.

The student, a resident of Bijalpur village under Ayana police station of Auraiya district, was studying in Raja Niranjan Singh Inter College in Auraiya. He also used to help his father in his fish business at home. On Tuesday, he left the house without informing anyone and did not return home. The family members initially launched a search and later lodged a report.

Further investigations are on in the matter.
