Asking officials to implement the plastic projects in a time bound manner, Principal Secretary, Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department, Surya Pratap Singh, warned that stringent action would be taken against the erring officers.

Dr Singh issued the warning after a meeting with members of the All-India Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA) in Auraiya on Wednesday.  The Principal Secretary said the state Government was committed to develop Auraiya as a plastic city. He said that in view of its strategic advantage of having readily available raw material and best-in-class infrastructure being developed, Auraiya was going to become a major plastic manufacturing hub in north India.

The plastic city is being developed by Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) in association with Gas Authority of India ltd (GAIl) at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore.  The project is coming up on 314 acre land, of which 225 acre would be developed for industrial units and remaining 89 acres for residential purpose. AIPMA chairman Jayesh K Rambhai said the upcoming plastic city would not only spur socio-economic development in the region due to the ancillary units, but would also create around 40,000 employment opportunities and have the potential of attracting Rs 4000 crore industrial investment.
