The state government issued a notice to the Samajwadi Party over renovation and construction carried out in the party’s state office on Vikramaditya Marg.
The SP state office is housed in an government bungalow allotted to the party by then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in 1994.
The present SP state headquarters used to be the official residence of the Chief Secretary of United Province (UP) during the British period.
Sources said that the notice issued by Rajya Sampatti Adhikari asked the party to explain whose permission was taken to undertake renovation and construction in the SP state office. The SP has been asked to give it explanation within the next 10 days.
During SP regime headed by Mulayam Singh Yadav, a big hall was constructed on the premises of the party office in 2005.
later, during the Akhilesh Yadav regime (2012-2017), another hall with a capacity to accommodate 500 people was constructed on the SP office premises.
At present, the bungalow is being remodelled as per directions of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Sources in the SP said they had information that the state government wanted to dispossess the partymen and get the office vacated.
A SP leader said that sensing trouble, the party had decided to have its own building for the state office in lucknow.
The issue was also raised during a meeting of SP national executive in lucknow on July 29.
The SP leader said that the party learnt from the bitter experience it had after the official bungalow had to be vacated by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav in June.
“The Bharatiya Janata Part government tried its best to tarnish the image of party chief Akhilesh Yadav by levelling baseless charges about damage done to the bungalow by him before vacating it,” he said.
“We can no longer trust the Yogi Adityanath government as it can go to any extent to harass us and we won’t be surprised, if we get orders from the government to vacate the office building, office of lohia Trust and Janeshwar Mishra Trust,” the SP leader said.
“The SP national executive has authorised the party chief to take necessary action needed for the party’s own office building in lucknow and for various other affiliated outfits,” the SP leader said.
