Reiterating the Samajwadi Party's commitment to stop communal forces from coming to power at the Centre, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the ruling party's state president, said there was no truth in the poll surveys which predicted that the SP would perform poorly in the lok Sabha elections.
"Everyone knows how these survey companies collect their samples. They have predicted a poor performance by the SP but not a single sample was collected from Mainpuri, Kannauj, Etah, Azamgarh or Etawah. This shows that these surveys were not conducted scientifically," said Yadav completed two years in office on Saturday. He, however, added that there could be some realistic assessment of the surveys.
"One newspaper recently claimed that all such surveys are 'bakwas' (rubbish)... They give some truth but the real truth is the fight at the booth level," he said, adding that the Samajwadi Party does not make assessments on the basis of surveys.
"The Samajwadi Party has no competitor in Uttar Pradesh and last time also it was the same. The surveys had predicted what they are saying this time also, but the results were totally different," Yadav said while addressing a press conference on completion of two years of his government.
Without taking the name of Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Yadav said: "Some leaders are talking of development agenda but actually they are trying to communalise the voters to grab power. But the SP will not allow these communal forces to achieve their agenda."
Yadav refused to comment whether SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav would contest from Azamgarh also along with Mainpuri. Yadav Senior was expected at the press meet but he did not come.Yadav Junior said he was committed to give good governance with stress on corruption-free administration and better law and order.
"We have met the expectations of the common man by fulfilling most of the ruling party's promises in just two years. No one can allege corruption in the distribution of unemployment allowances or laptops," he said.
The Chief Minister, who was accompanied by several of his ministers, gave a detailed account of the achievements of his Government in health, power, education, infrastructure, roads sectors and in implementation of the social and welfare schemes.
Yadav Junior warned the party leaders of stern action if they did not support the party candidates in the election. "We are closely watching every activity of the party workers and leaders," he said.
"The SP will certainly perform well in the lok Sabha election as the support base of the party has increased after its good work in the state," Yadav Junior said, adding that the Government was doing everything to control crime.
When asked why his father Mulayam Singh Yadav had been advising him publicly on carrying out development works smoothly, the Chief Minister said, "There are no differences (between them)... and this was not affecting his 'raj dharma'."
Asked about his earlier comment that getting works done from bureaucrats "is very difficult", Yadav said there were good officers who had made various welfare schemes a reality, and there were some others who were not as good.
Referring to the issue of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal without taking her name, Yadav Junior said when action was taken against her, the media highlighted it, but when she was given good posting along with her husband, it was not reported. On Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal's charges against the media, Yadav Junior said he (Kejriwal) was made by the media and now he was levelling all kinds of charges against it. "Media demolishes those whom they create," he added.
