In a veiled attack on the Samajwadi Party, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in the Assembly on Tuesday that his government would treat criminals like criminals.

“There will be no crime under political patronage in UP. The criminals would be treated like criminals and there would be no discrimination,’’ said Yogi while intervening in a debate in the Assembly during the Question Hour on Tuesday.

A starred question on law and order was jointly tabled by Nitin Agarwal of Samajwadi Party and Sukhdeo Rajbhar and lalji Verma of Bahujan Samaj Party.

“Due to political compulsions, the Opposition will not admit but they and people close to them do believe that there is noticeable improvement in the law and order front ever since the BJP government took over,’’ stressed the CM.

Yogi added, “Its an open secret as to who were behind the crime in UP. I want to assure the House that only the `rule of law’ will prevail in the state.”

Questioning the political validity of the Opposition charges on law and order, the CM said, “The BJP government has not yet completed even two months in office and the Opposition was trying to compare it with the misrule of past 14 years. let the government complete one year, then we will answer all your queries on law and order.  Rule of law will prevail in UP and no one will be spared, irrespective of political affiliations.’’

During the Question Hour, the Opposition tried to disrupt proceedings over law and order demanding adjournment over the gruesome dacoity in a jewellery shop in Mathura in which two jewelers were killed and valuables worth crores were stashed. later, not satisfied with the governments reply, Congress and SP members staged a noisy walkout from the House.

Yogi Adityanath said that the government was serious over the Mathura incident and the DGP has been summoned by him and the top cop would visit Mathura on Wednesday.

“We have zero tolerance for crime. There would be no discrimination on grounds of caste and religion,‘’ said the CM attacking the SP for terming the present situation as ‘burning’. Yogi also reminded the SP of Jawahar Bagh incident in Mathura in 2016 saying that such incidents would never occur during the BJP regime.

Referring to recent incidents of violence in Saharanpur, the CM said, “The violence in Saharanpur was engineered by a particular group having close links with a former MlA of a party.” BSP MlA and former minister lalji Verma countered the CM claiming that the former MlA has been falsely implicated in the incident.

leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary alleged that the BJP government was like a new-born with Polio infection and hence unable to control the law and order situation.

Parliamentary Affairs minister Suresh Kumar Khanna retorted saying, “We have inherited a Polio-afflicted law and order machinery from the previous SP regime and we were in the process of fixing the problem.’’ The minister also said that the crime rate has dropped after the BJP came to power and Oppsoition charges on deteriorating law and order were without substance. Khanna said that in the last two months of BJP being in office, seven persons have been detained under NSA, 239 under Gangsters Act and Goonda Act has been invoked against 2, 027 criminals.

Earlier, the Assembly witnessed noisy scenes on commencement of the day’s business as the entire Opposition was on their feet over the Mathura dacoity and murder. Speaker Hriday Naryan Dikshit tried to pacify the members and asked them to raise the issue after the Question Hour.

“On Monday, a bad precedence was created in the House, when the Governor’s address was disrupted. Now on the second day, the Opposition was again trying to disrupt proceedings of the House. The Opposition cannot hold the House to ransom,” said Dikshit.
