Dishing out a stern warning to the mafia of eastern UP, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated that there was no place for them in the state and the BJP-led government had vowed to snuff out such elements.
“Our government is constantly moving towards wiping out the mafia culture which hindered the development of estern UP for long,” Yogi said while inspecting the ongoing construction of Purvanchal Expressway in Ghazpiur on Monday.
The Chief Minister said that previous regimes patronised such mafia and criminals in the state due to which development suffered a massive setback.
Stating that UP would now be known for development, Yogi said, “There is no place for those who patronise the mafia, criminal and rogue elements in the new Uttar Pradesh of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. While we are working towards the welfare of villages, farmers, youth, and development, it is very important to destroy the mafia culture that hindered development of Purvanchal for so long,” he added.
In the present regime, a massive anti-mafia campaign was launched in which government agencies seized illegal assets worth Rs 1000 crore of more than 40 mobsters like Mukhtar Ansari, Atiq Ahmad, Vijay Mishra and Sundar Bhati. Besides, illegal properties of the mafia and their close aides have been demolished. The state government has also registered cases against 800 gangsters and their close aides. Most cases have been filed against Mokhtar Ansari and Atiq Ahmad, who virtually ‘ruled’ in Purvanchal.
