No fresh Covid case reported in 67 dists

Signalling control over the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, out of the 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh, no fresh infections were reported from as many as 67 districts in the last 24 hours.

According to an official communiqué released on Sunday evening, out of over 1.77 lakh samples tested for novel coronavirus infection, only 14 tested positive. The fresh cases have declined by more than 99 per cent from their peak which was 38,055 on April 24.

Where other states have been witnessing a greater surge of fresh novel coronavirus infections (daily cases ranging from 15,000-2,000), Uttar Pradesh has restricted the daily case count below 50 for over three consecutive months.

Consequently, the test positivity rate (TPR), which shows the level of infection among people, has decreased to less than 0.01 per cent, the lowest in the country. As Covid recovery rate in Uttar Pradesh steadily follows an upward graph, the state on Sunday recorded a remarkable recovery rate of 98.7 per cent. As many as COVID-19 13 patients recovered in the last 24 hours in the state.

High recoveries and a low number of new COVID-19 cases have brought down the active caseload in Uttar Pradesh to 143, while the percentage of active cases as against the total confirmed cases is 0.01 per cent. The active caseload has come down by over 99 per cent from its peak capped at 3,10,783 cases on April 30.

Even as Uttar Pradesh’s active cases continue to hover around the 100 mark, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure that everyone coming to UP from other states and abroad is tested for novel coronavirus infection. This includes ensuring that those coming especially from abroad or states reporting a higher surge of cases like Kerala and Maharashtra are carrying negative COVID-19 reports.

Taking proactive measures such as aggressive 'Trace, Test & Treat' and prevention through vaccination and partial Covid curfews to eradicate the pandemic, the UP government has left no stone unturned to minimise the devastating impact of the novel coronavirus.

Coming out successful in the fight against COVID-19, Uttar Pradesh is on its way to cross a significant landmark with more than six crore people receiving both doses of the Covid vaccine so far.

The most populous state has so far given over 17.70 crore ‘Shots of Life’ to people. In addition, the state has also achieved the landmark of administering the first dose of the Covid vaccine to over 80.16 per cent of the eligible adult population.

The impressive pace of Covid vaccination has made Uttar Pradesh ‘the top state’ despite having the largest population in the country. UP has set an example for other states of the country, besides controlling the infection in a short time. On the other hand, Maharashtra lags with 12.36 crore doses delivered so far.
