No change in condition of Dalits, poor in MP: Maya

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Thursday attacked the Congress, saying that change of guard in Madhya Pradesh had no impact on the lives of the poor and Dalits.

She also fired salvo at the Bharatiya Janata Party, saying that the entire nation was shocked by the manner in which BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya was given warm reception after his release even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s adverse comments.

“Despite a change of government in Madhya Pradesh and the Congress coming to power in the state, there has been no improvement in the condition of Dalits, poor, labourers, farmers, jobless, women and backward classes. Like in BJP-ruled states, casteist and communal incidents continue in MP,” Mayawati said while reviewing the BSP organisation in MP on Thursday.

The recent incident of BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya taking law into his own hands and misbehaving with government officials in Indore also cropped up during the review meeting.

“After Akash was released on bail, the way in which the BJP leaders garlanded and welcomed the MLA stunned the whole nation and was criticised by everyone,” the BSP chief said.

“It remains to be seen how much Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stern statements against the Indore incident will effect the behaviour of the saffron party members. The BJP leadership’s statements against mob-lynching, cow-slaughter and mobocracy have had no desired effect, especially in the BJP-ruled states which is highly unfortunate”, the BSP chief added.

It may be mentioned that during BJP Parliamentary Party meet on Monday, Prime Minister Modi without taking names, had warned partymen against indulging in acts of hooliganism.

“Manmani nahin chalegi (Arbitrary acts will not do.) Whoever it may be, whoever’s son he may be... such arrogance, misbehaviour cannot be tolerated and action should be taken against them,” Modi had reportedly told the meeting, also attended by party general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP MLA Aksah Vijayvargiya’s father.

In the review meeting, the BSP resolved to strengthen the party cadre and continue the fight for justice for the poor and oppressed people in a peaceful and democratic way.

The BSP president said that to expand the base of the party, it was important to take the people into confidence and convince them that their interests would be secured by the BSP.
