Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati termed the sudden change of heart of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as a body blow to the people of Bihar.
“The people of Bihar voted against the BJP and Narendra Modi in the Assembly poll and sent the grand alliance to form a government. But 20 months later, Nitish Kumar ditched the mandate of the people of his state for his own vested interests,” she alleged.
In a statement released in lucknow on Thursday, Mayawati alleged that the BJP and Narendra Modi were so power hungry that they were doing unethical and undemocratic things to gain power.
“After Goa and Manipur, Bihar had become the target of the BJP and they achieved the goal through their undemocratic methods. Such lust for power of the ruling BJP is a threat to democratic set-up of the country,” she charged.
The BSP chief said that Nitish Kumar and the BJP should have respected the people’s mandate which voted for a secular government in Bihar so the two parties must allow a non-BJP government rule for full five years.
Appealing to political parties and people of Bihar to counter BJP’s move, Mayawati said that such move by the BJP would only weaken democracy in the country.
The former UP Chief Minister also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for using official machinery to defame Opposition leaders.
“The Central government is using it’s agencies to defame Opposition leaders and divert public attention from the total failure of both the state and Central governments. They are dislodging democratically elected governments and manipulating the setting up of coalition governments with BJP as a partner,”she asserted.
