Claiming that National Investigation Agency (NIA) has broken the backbone of naxalism, terrorism and extremism Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that prosecution of NIA is 95 per cent – one of the best in the world.

“NIA is playing an important role in countering the terrorism and naxalism in the country. It has been able to reach the point from where these anti-national activities operate. It is an autonomous body which is working without any interference. That is the reason in last three years it has made tremendous success,” Singh said while inaugurating new NIA regional office and residential quarters here on Sunday.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and other dignitaries including UP DGP Sulkhan Singh were present in the function.

He said there is 40 per cent decline in Naxal activities and extremist activities in north-east has gone down by 75 per cent. “Fake currencies play an instrumental role in anti-national activities. The NIA has been able to reach the source of it and has arrested many people found involved in terror funding,” he said.

Home minister said that NIA has broken the backbone of the terrorist organisation by hitting at its terror funding network. It has managed to clog the conduit which carries financial activities of these anti-national organizations. “This is the reason there is a sharp decline in the stone pelters because the source of financial assistance has gone dry,” Singh said.

"NIA is successful in prosecuting 95 per cent of the accused in anti-national activities and it is one of the best in the world. This organisation is at present investigating into 165 cases in the country," he said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in his speech called for better coordination between the states and the NIA to wipe out terrorism, naxalism and extremism from the country.

Stressing that UP will provide all assistance to NIA, Yogi said there is a need for technology improvement besides the security agencies should be hi-tech to counter the insurgency and terrorism as these forces are trying to gain ground in some parts of the country. "It is unfortunate that some of our neighbouring countries were promoting terrorist organisations and they should be strictly dealt with," he said.

Claiming that NIA was playing an important role in the country's security aspect, the UP CM said the NIA had broken the backbone of the terrorist organisation by dealing strictly on the fake currency and hitting out on their financial resources.

UP minister Mahendra Singh, NIA Director General Sharad Kumar, NBCC chairperson  A K Mittal were among those were present in the function.

After the inauguration of the NIA campus, Union Home minister left for New Delhi after staying in lucknow, his parliamentary constituency, for four days.
