Surprised over overwhelming response of people in which over 23 lakh youth applied for 368 posts of peons , the state government has decided to scarp the appointment process saying it was not feasible to conduct interview of such a large number of applicants.

“New rules and guidelines have to be prepared for this appointment. The selection was interview based. The response was so huge that it would have taken 4 years to conduct interview. We will seek government’s guidelines in this matter,” secretary, secretariat administration Prabhat Mittal told a select group of reporters here on Wednesday.

The recruitment to the posts was opened after a gap of 12 years. The selections were scheduled to be made through interviews and the minimum qualification was fifth passed certificate and ability to ride a bicycle.

Against the advertised 368 posts Government received 23 lakh applications meaning there are over 6200 candidates vying for one post. Of them 255 are Ph.D hoders, 2 lakh post graduates and 78 B.Tech engineers. Interestingly, maximum 11,21,059 applicants are class 10 pass. There are 53,426 people who have passed class V – the minimum qualification required for the post. Besides 3797 Class VI and 3964 class VII pass people had also applied for the post.

The pay scale was Rs 5,200 -20,200. Initially, the person would get around Rs 16,000. Anyone between the age group of 18 and 40 was eligible to apply for this post.

Mittal said that the administration will send the proposal to the Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan regarding the appointment process. “One way could be conducting a written test. But the modalities of the test have to be ascertained. The minimum qualification for this post is class V but PG students ate also there. So we will have to take suggestion from experts in this field,” he said.
