Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the British might have left India 70 years ago but still some people still retain the colonial mindset which was creating obstacles in development of the country and the biggest task was to bring about a change in such mindset.
“Time has come to teach these forces driven by age-old mentality. Unless the mindset of such people is changed, India cannot progress,” Yogi said while addressing a function at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur on Wednesday. This was Yogi’s sixth visit to Gorakhpur after taking over as Chief Minister.
The CM said that on August 9, 1942, Mahatama Gandhi had given the clarion call of ‘Quit India’to the British which worked and the British left India after five years.
“But some people retain the British mentality even today and continue to play a decisive role. Such people do not have a vision about India. They do not know what exactly India needs or a deprived man requires,” said Yogi.
“Theirs is a very divisive mindset which thrives by diving people on the lines of religion and caste. This must end. The message should go down to the village level that the people are one and there was no caste or sectarian difference. Once we can do it, we will win the battle and India will march to the path of development,” he explained.
The CM said that a year-and-a-half back there was a campaign against the NDA Government in the name of intolerance. This was a campaign which was led by people having British mindest. “We cannot survive by eating leftovers of the British” (Angrezo ka jhootan kha kar hum ab jinda nahi rah sakte), he said.
At the function, Yogi inaugurated 102 government schemes including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and distributed certificates to 5126 beneficiaries .
“The NDA Government had started this scheme in 2015 but the previous Samajwadi Party regime did not extend the facilities to the poor of UP,” he said.
Under the scheme, a beneficiary will get Rs 2.50 lakh to construct a house of which Rs 1.50 lakh will be given by Central Government and Rs 1 lakh will be given by the state government.
“The BJP government will construct over 10 lakh houses in rural areas and over 2 lakh houses in urban areas across UP. This government has also rationalized power supply. During the previous government, only five districts used to get power but now the whole of UP gets power,” he said.
