Even as Uttar Pradesh, despite its large population density, has been controlling the spread of COVID-19 successfully compared to other major states, the state government has implemented a slew of preventive measures to check the third wave of the pandemic.

Out of over 2,22,428 Covid samples tested in the last 24 hours, 7,695 tested positive, while 253 Covid-19 patients recovered in the same span of time.

Under the stringent containment mechanism implemented to check spread of COVID-19, the government has not only imposed night curfews across the state, but also, has stepped up vigilance in all 75 districts and surveillance on the state borders. It may be mentioned that out of the 25,974 active cases in UP, as many as 25,445 are in home isolation signifying the mildness of the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus.

According to medical experts of the State Level Health Expert Advisory Committee, the Omicron variant is not as lethal and contagious as the previous ones. Even if a person gets infected, he or she can be cured in home isolation. Besides, complete vaccination has proved to be effective in fighting against the new variant of the novel coronavirus.

Nearly 73,000 surveillance committees that played an effective role in containing the spread of COVID-19, have been instructed to carry out intensive screening in both urban and rural areas. Industrial units have been asked to set up Covid Help Desks and daycare centres.

The Integrated Covid Command and Control Centre (ICCCC) has been made functional 24×7 and the chief minister has asked the Health and Medical Education department to keep monitoring the availability of medical resources as well as treatment facilities in all government and private medical institutions of the state.
