Naxal threat: Alert sounded in eastern UP

Published on:

An alert has been sounded across the state particularly in three districts of Eastern UP after Intelligence agencies report confirmed that  Naxals had planned to spread terror in the State during coming Parliament elections. The reports not only further put the cops on their toes but security has been also strengthened, especially on the establishments of security forces as they were reportedly on prime target.

Briefing the media persons about the video conferencing of union cabinet secretary with principal secretary (Home) and Director General of Police of all States here on Friday evening, IG (law and order) Amrendra Sengar, said that they were asked to take special measures as there are reports that Naxalites could create trouble during elections.

Sengar said that they were directed to share intelligence inputs with their counterparts in the Intelligence Bureau as well those working in neighbouring Naxalite affected areas of Bihar, Chattirgarh, Jharkhand etc. He claimed that a security plan will be also chalked out in consultation with the neighbouring states so that a concentrated drive could be made against the Naxalites and to thwart their attempt of making any kind of subversive activities during the polls. He said that special measures will be taken by them in the three naxal prone districts of UP which included Chandauli, Sone Bhadra, Mirjapur etc. All the three districts would go to polls in the last phase of election in UP i.e May 7.

It may be mentioned that after IB alert, an emergency meeting of all the eight naxals affected states i.e UP, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, has been held here about a year back in which besides deciding on future course of action, it was also decided to form a `Joint Naxalite Force', so that each and every information can be passed more quickly and action is also taken jointly. The officers and force, which are deployed in Naxalites affected districts will be also informed about the `modus-operandi' used by the naxals and what device or mechanism should be used to combat it.

Besides the above, state government after finding it hard to track movement of the forces deployed in the naxal affected districts along with that of any movement of the maoists due to  difficult terrain and dense forests,  had decided to strengthen intelligence network and started preparing digital map of the above area along with that of entire vindyachal region. The cops also included the bordering areas of the state which are naxal infected in

their digital map. The efforts to prepare the digital map has been made so that  Global ositioning System (GPS)  equipments be fixed on all the vehicles attached with the security forces so their locations and movements in the area could be easily located as well as monitored. The above GPS system will also help the law enforcing agencies to take regular pictures through satellites of the entire region to pin point movement of any suspicious groups (read Maoists), especially inside the jungles.
