Sinking all difference with Congress party, National President of Rastriya Ulama Council (RUC), Maulana Ameer Rashadi is likely to extend support Congress party in Varanasi against Narendra Modi.
Notably, in year 2008 the RUC rose after Batla House encounter and arrests of Muslim youths from Azamgarh on alleged terror charges. “Although we are against Congress and other political parties due to their ill policies towards Muslims but to defeat Modi, RUC could extend support to Congress in Varanasi,” said Rashadi while talking to The Pioneer over phone.
Rashadi who had announced to contest elections against Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, was pondering to extend support to either Aam Aadmi Party Convener, Arvind Kejriwal or to Mukhtar Ansari. But now when Ansari has backed off from Varanasi seat he is looking out for other options.
“We asked our organisation members to find out best between Congress and AAP who could give tough fight to Modi in Varanasi. So far we have got inputs that being local leader Congress candidate Ajay Rai could give tough fight. But still decision is to be made,” he shared adding that he would be going to Varanasi to meet the teams and then final call will be made.
When asked about fielding any candidate of RUC just like he is contesting against SP Chief, he said although there is good presence of Muslims in Varanasi but if he will field any candidate then again there will be division of Muslims votes. “As the condition of SP and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is not good enough, we will choose between Congress and AAP,” he added.
