A high-level Election Commission of India team headed by Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi and two Commissioners will be on a three-day visit to the state starting January 13 for reviewing poll preparation.

This was confirmed by well placed sources in the office of UP Chief Electoral Officer. The EC team’s visit comes a day after the publication of revised and final electoral rolls on January 12. Sources said that the EC team will kickstart their programme by meeting representatives of political parties and then hold review meetings with senior state government officials.

On day two, the EC officials will hold meetings with district magistrates, district police chiefs and senior police officers and officials engaged in the election process. On the concluding day, the EC team will brief the media about the outcome of their visit.

Meanwhile, political parties particularly the BJP and BSP are preparing a list of officials deployed in various districts against whom they are likely to file complaints.

leaders of both parties have already claimed that there were large number of civil and police officers in several districts, who are identified more as cadre of the ruling party rather than civil servants.

Both parties are expected to submit the list of such officers to the EC team and demand their removal before the starting of the election process.

The notification for the first phase of elections to be held in west UP, would be issued on January 17.
