The celebrations had kick-started on Friday with a Victorian- style ‘buggy’ ride for Yadav and his son Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. The buggy is said to have been imported from london. Other leaders who accompanied Yadav include his younger brother and UP minister Shivpal Singh Yadav, UP Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey and the host, UP minority welfare minister Mohammad Azam Khan. Though Yadav is celebrating his birthday in a grand way, the party is observing the day as ‘Samata Diwas’ by distributing clothes and sweets to the poor. Meanwhile Governor Ram Naik also extended birthday greetings to Yadav and wished him a “happy, long and active life”. The Governor wished him from Satpati village of Maharashtra’s Palghar district where he attended a function organised in his honour by fishermen community. Naik wished Yadav that he continues to play an active role in the development of Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile in Badaun, a 52-year-old woman was killed and another injured during a blanket distribution programme on the occasion of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s birthday in Bisauli area on Saturday. Sharbati Devi was injured in the stampede during distribution of blankets at the premises of Madanlal Inter College following which she was taken to the community health centre where doctors declared her dead, ASP Badaun, Balendra Bhushan Singh said. He claimed that the injured person has been admitted to hospital.
