Name change only to divert attention of people: Rajbhar

Cabinet Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, an ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and president of Suheldeo Bharatiya Samaj Party, has slammed the Yogi Adityanath government’s move to rename districts like Allahabad and Faizabad, calling it a “drama” to divert the attention of the people from real issues.

Mincing no words in attacking the Yogi Adityanath government over its moves to change names of several cities in the state, Rajbhar said the BJP should also change names of its Muslim leaders, including Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.

“The BJP changed the names of Mughalsarai, Faizabad and Allahabad, saying they were named after the Mughals. They have a national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain, Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, UP minister Mohsin Raza — three Muslim faces of the BJP —and their names should be changed first,” Rajbhar said.

“This name changing spree is only a drama to divert the attention of the people from more pressing issues,” he added,.

Slamming the BJP government in the state, Rajbhar said, “Whenever the backward and oppressed raise their voices to demand their rights, the BJP resorts to such gimmicks. No one else has given things which the Muslims gave. Should we throw away the GT Road? Who built the Red Fort? Who built the Taj Mahal?”

Recently, the UP government renamed Allahabad and Faizabad districts as Prayagraj and Ayodhya respectively, prompting BJP leaders in other regions and states to demand renaming of several cities.
