In an attempt to bring transparency in Government working Governor Ram Naik has asked Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to provide government’s clarification on the 23 special reports of the lokayukta pending before it over financial irregularities committed by politicians and officials. In his letter to Chief Minister, which was released to the press on Monday, Governor has asked him to give his and Chief Secretary’s clarification on the special reports pending with the state government since long.

He said after the clarification, the reports would be tabled in the state legislature and “government should duly inform him”. This was the second time Governor has written a letter to Yadav asking him to lay government clarifications on queries of lokayukta on the table of the House. The first letter was sent on September 12, 2014. Governor letter could invite trouble for several politicians including former ministers of the previous BSP government against whom lokayukta had found incriminating proof. The lokayukta has also sought clarification on some bureaucrat’s “earning”.

The Governor said that out of total 43 special reports the state government has given its clarification in 20 reports but only one has been tabled in the state legislature so far. Naik said that the remaining 19 reports should be tabled in the next session of state Vidhan Sabha .

The Governor has sought clarification from Chief Minister under the power vested on him under Section 12(5) and section 12(7) of the UP lokayukta and Deputy lokayukta Act 1975. UP government has sent 20 clarifications on the special reports sent by the lokayukta between January 2014 to March 31,2015 but only one report has been tabled in the UP legislature so far.
