Mystery has shrouded the death of former Cabinet minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati’s nephew, whose decapitated body was recovered from railway tracks in Kharauna village, Amethi, on Friday morning.
The body of Shubham Prajapati (20), who had gone out of his house on Thursday evening, was found on the railway tracks, Amethi SHO Shyam Sunder said. The body had been cut into two pieces, he said.
Shubham, who was the son of Gayatri Prajapati’s younger brother Jagdish Prasad Prajapati, was a resident of Parsava village in Amethi. Gayatri Prajapati was a minister in the Samajwadi Party (SP) government and is presently lodged in jail. The family members suspected that Shubham was killed over political rivalry and that the body was dumped on railway tracks to make it look like a case of suicide or accidental death.
Shubham, whose father Jagdish is said to be the sitting pradhan, was preparing for panchayat elections. The body was sent for autopsy while further investigations were on.
Meanwhile, goods worth lakhs of rupees were stolen from the ancient Gopal Ashram Temple in Bodh Ashram in Firozabad district on Thursday night. The thieves made off with the ornaments and cash. The body of a 70-year-old guardian of the temple was also recovered from the same room.
The incident came to light on Friday morning and police were informed thereafter. During investigation, it surfaced that the body of temple’s caretaker Deendayal was lying in a nearby room. The police said it appeared that the elderly caretaker of the temple had died 12 hours ago. His mobile phone was also lying near the body and no trace of wounds was found on the body.
The superintendent of police said that there are no CCTV cameras installed inside the temple premises. Two youths have been captured in the CCTV cameras installed on the road.
