Mystery continues in Tansil's murder case

Published on:

What could be deemed as a double speak on part of top cop of the state police, Zaveed Ahmed as well as his junior colleagues, on one hand they claimed to be still probing the sensational killing on National Investigating Agency (NIA) officer Tanzil Ahmed, and had so far interrogated over hundred of suspects and on the other hand they on record made `Muneer’ as the main accused in the case and also announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest.

What is more interesting that just on Friday afternoon after visiting the spot in Bijnore, Ahmed had categorically denied of making any breakthrough into the killing and just said to have getting some clues by interrogating some suspects. Ahmed also went on record to say that they were in no hurry to work out the case and would take time to cross examine the sequence of events before cracking the case. However, within few hours of his above statement, his office sent a mail making Muneer as a prime accused in the Tanzil’s murder case and announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest. It is interesting that on one hand Ahmed denied of working out the case and on the other, he made one criminal as a prime accused and put him on `Wanted list’ pointing that the case was already worked out.

It may be mentioned that though Ahmed denied of cracking the case and said to be still working on several lines but sources in the Bijnore police confirmed that the case was almost opened and the cops had detained three persons in this regard which included Rehan, a kin of Tanzil along with two others. Sources also confirmed that even Muneer was picked up from New Delhi on late night on last Thursday and was kept in a secret hideout for interrogation but on Friday, the Bijnore police not only ruled out his arrest but announced a cash price on his arrest to buttress their theory of still looking for him.

Sources also confirmed that even after successfully rounding-up the suspected shooters who also played the role of conspirator in the sensational killing of  Tanzil Ahmed, Uttar Pradesh police suddenly decided to go slow to avert controversy of working the case in a hurry and that no efforts were made to confirm the `Terror’ angle. The decision to delay the process is also made as the family of the victim, came out in open against the theory floated so far by the investigation agencies and were adamant that the killing was a fall out of action against terror groups and nothing to do with personal enmity of the victim with the criminals.

Meanwhile sources said that the Bijnore police in still grilling the suspects as they wanted to recover the weapons, a .9mm pistol and .32 revolvers used to eliminate the officer before making any official announcement on working out the case. Besides, the State police also wanted to take both the Central agencies as well as the family members of the deceased into confidence particularly that the case was worked out on `merit’ and not in any hurry, before making official disclosure about the investigation made so far.
