The Bharatiya Janata Party has threatened to intensify its agitation if State Government fails to arrest killers of Sachin and Gaurav by Tuesday. The announcement was made by party’s state president Dr lakshmi Kant Bajpai.
Addressing party workers in a protest meet held outside DM’s office here on Monday he said that the State Government was selective in arresting people. "This is being done keeping in mind Samajwadi Party’s Muslim vote bank," he said.
The BJP staged a statewide dharna to protest arrest of party legislators for Muzaffarnagar riots and Government’s failure to control pogrom. After dharna party leaders submitted a memorandum addressed to President of India through District Magistrate.
"The killers of Sachin and Gaurav are roaming freely while the police was keep on arresting BJP legislators. This is strange the culprits of the incident that sparked Muzzafarnagar riots are roaming free," he said.
Dr Bajpai said that the state government’s approach was partisan in Muzzafarnagar riot. Even people from a particular community were deprived of basic amenities in the relief camps. "The BJP leaders and legislators were being persecuted to appease Muslims," the BJP state president said. Party’s spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that BJP’s dharna across the state was a great success. Senior party leaders led the protest and later submitted memorandum to DM.
Meanwhile, Pathak said that a high level meeting of senior party leaders would be held in New Delhi in view of forthcoming rallies. Party’s national president Rajnath Singh, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, party’s state president Dr lakshmi Kant Bajpai and in-charge of UP Affairs Amit Shah would attend this meeting, he said. "There is excitement among party workers about Modi’s visit to UP. The rallies are bound to be a great success," he said.
