All India Muslim Personal law board has rejected the growing clamour for banning the triple talaq. The board said Muslim Personal law is a Divine law and there is no Scope for any change or amendment. It also said the 'law of Talaq is totally proved and justified in Quran and Hadith'.

This was the conclusion of a daylong seminar organized here on Saturday by the Darul Uloom Farangi Mahal Eidgah lucknow to address issues related to women's rights in the light of Muslim Personal law. The seminar on Women's rights addressed by women member of All India Muslim Personal law Board Asma Zehra, Zafaryab Jilani and Maulana Khalid Rashid.

Asma Zehra from Hyderabad said of the 20 crore Muslims in India 10 crore are women and 99% of them believed that Muslim Personal law is formulated in the light of Quran and Hadith (sayings and deeds of the Prophet of Islam). She said that Islam was first to give equal and in some cases more right than men to the women.

Citing an example of more rights to muslim women in Islamic law she said `` the consent to accept in nikah is first given by the girl/bride. Similarly, just as a man can annul the marriage by saying Talaq, the woman has an equal right to exercise the right to divorce through   ``Khulaa' or Faskh e Nikah’’. . She cited verses from Quran stating it is not legal or justified for a husband and wife to live together after a man has said Talaq three times.

Asma said that India is a Secular Democratic nation state and every citizen of this country has the constitutional right of religious freedom and the muslim Personal law is a part of Indian Constitution. Twenty Crore Muslims of this country follow personal law in their family Matters.

"The media is highlighting the issue of  triple talaq to show that huge numbers of muslim women are suffering because of this provision but the ground reality is that the incidence of divorce  is lowest in the muslim community’’, said Asma Zehra.

Condemning the campaign against the triple Talaq run by several organizations across the country, Asma said `` such letter head organizations have presented a false concocted datas in their survey report, we strongly condemn such surveys. Muslim Personal law is a divine law and there is no scope for any change or amendment’’.

The women member of the Mujslim personal law board said `` the muslim personal law is attacked as being biased against the women and anti woman, which is totally false and untrue’’.

Quoting a recent report in a pink paper she said "except two major MNCs of USA no MNC was paying equal wages to its men and women employees".

She said it is also unfortunate that India ranks 139 in gender equality. ``The status of women in Muslim Community is much better; she is given honour, dignity protection and full freedom within limits of Shariah. Muslim Personal law has simple and easier way of solving family disputes through Darul Qaza, which also lesson the burden of Judiciary’’, she claimed.

Earlier, Imam of Eidgah Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli said there was conspiracy to malign Muslims by presenting dubious survey results and raising unnecessary objections to Muslim Personal law and Islamic jurisprudence. Additional advocate general and member of the muslim personal law board Zafaryab Jilani said Constitution ensures fundamental right of every citizen to practice his religion and follow his creed.
