The Samajwadi Party led state government has come under fire of Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) and other Muslim organisations after the eviction of victims from Muzaffarnagar relief camps.
The AMUTA has strongly condemned the state government for forcefully evicting riots victims from relief camps in Muzaffarnagar and slapping a false case of encroaching on government land against them.
"It is very unfortunate that instead of ensuring adequate and proper rehabilitation and providing basic relief facilities to victims who are living there in extreme cold weather resulting into death of around hundred children, the government is using force to evict the families, said Honorary Secretary of AMUTA, Dr Aftab Alam. He added that the forceful evacuation of victims is taking place despite National Human Rights Commission and National Commission for Minorities advice not to do so.
The AMUTA has also expressed disappointment over the statement of the Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav that there were no victims left in the relief camps in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli and those staying there were
instead conspirators of the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party purposely staying there to sully the image of his party's government in the state.
"Rubbing salt to the wounds of victims Principal Secretary for Home Anil Gupta stated that no children in relief camps died of cold. No one can die of cold if people die of cold then nobody will survive in Siberia. Both statements are false and contrary to ground realities as the Supreme Court had already taken suo moto cognizance on the deaths occurring in the relief camps," said Alam.
According to AMUTA, the recent reports in the leading print and electronic media and acknowledgement by the visiting teams of NHRC and NCM are testimony of the fact that even three months after the riots around 20,000 victims are still languishing in around 15 camps in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli who are not ready to go back to their homes because of fear as perpetrators of heinous crimes committed against them are roaming freely because of the inaction on the part of the UP government.
The AMUTA demanded that the government of India instead of playing politics and passing the buck must urgently intervene in the matter discharging its constitutional responsibility. A high level fact finding committee must be constituted to asses afresh about the number of victims living in relief camps and state of conditions therein.
