Muslim clerics welcome judgement

Amid reservations over the Supreme Court verdict voiced by All-India Muslim Personal Law Board, the Muslim clergy welcomed the judgement in favour of Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya.

The AIMPLB has announced to file a review petition against the Supreme Court judgement.

“We will take legal advice for further action,” AIMPLB secretary Zafaryab Jilani said, adding that the Muslim side did not agree with certain aspects of the verdict.

Meanwhile, Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad said, “We humbly accept the Supreme Court verdict. I am thankful to Allah that Muslims by and large have accepted this verdict and the dispute has ended now. Though it is their (Muslim Personal Law Board) right to file a review petition, I think matter should be closed now. I urge the people to maintain peace and harmony and accept the apex court verdict.”

On the other land, AIMPLB executive member and Imam of Aishbagh Eidgah in Lucknow, Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, said that the AIMPLB legal committee would examine the verdict and take a decision.

“It is a historic verdict in which the Supreme Court too admitted that the mosque was not built on any temple. The verdict will strengthen brotherhood between Hindu and Muslims and ensure peace and harmony,” he said.

Original plaintiff in the Ayodhya title suit, Iqbal Ansari of Ayodhya, also welcomed the apex court decision and said that it was a good gesture that the court directed the government to provide five acres of land to Muslims for construction of a mosque in Ayodhya.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Rajya Sabha member Vinay Katiyar welcomed the apex court ruling and handing over of the disputed land for the Ram temple.

“It is the duty of the government now to search land for early construction of a mosque in Ayodhya,” Katiyar said and appealed to the people to remain calm and not get excited by the judgement.

Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board, whose appeal was dismissed by the Supreme Court while delivering the unanimous decision on the Ayodhya case on Saturday, welcomed the verdict.

“The Shia Central Waqf Board welcomes the Supreme Court decision and congratulates the countrymen, especially those who fought the legal battle in a dignified manner,” Shia Central Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi said in a statement.

“The dismissal of the Shia Central Waqf Board claim is not a big thing. It had only said that Ram temple should be constructed in Ayodhya and, therefore, today’s verdict is a victory for the Shia Waqf Board,” Rizvi said.

“The highest court of the land has today cleared the way for the construction of Ram temple at the ‘janmasthan/’ and put a legal stamp on it,” Rizvi said.
