After Muslim clerics voiced their annoyance over  Mulayam Singh Yadav giving audience to VHP leaders, it  is party’s national general secretary and one of the most  powerful ministers in UP cabinet Md Azam Khan  questioned as why Samajwadi Party leadership was keen  for mediation in Ram janmabhoomi Babri Masjid issue  when the matter is sub-judice.

In a strongly worded statement Azam Khan said Mulayam  Singh Yadav had built his image among Muslims after a  long struggle. "I believe he would not allow anyone to  malign this image now," Azam Khan said in his statement  here on Monday. The two-hour long meeting between Samajwadi Party  leadership comprising Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son  Akhilesh and top VHP leaders on Saturday had angered  Muslims who believe that Hindu leaders had approached  Yadav father and son duo with a request to mediate in the  RJB-Babri Mosque issue.

"Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav postponed his press  conference on development issue for almost 2 hours and  media projected the whole issue reminding the Muslims  about the dark days of 1992 when frenzied crowd of Hindu  zealots demolished Babri Masjid," Azam Kha wrote in his  two-page letter     ''The act of the SP leaders has hurt the sentiments of the  Muslims and talks between the VHP and Mulayam Singh  Yadav has sent a wrong signal to the community,'' Khan  said.

He said VHP leaders including Ashok Singhal could be  termed as a criminal for demolishing the Babri mosque and  now the Samajwadi Party leaders have given audience to  the same criminal and their this act has hurt the sentiments  of Muslims. Questioning that how could Mulayam Singh Yadav act as a facilitator in the Ram Janambhoomi and Babri Masjid issue  when on December 6,1992, the frenzy people demolished  the mosque and set up a temple there.

'' When the matter is sub-judice and no new construction  could be carried out in that area till court orders the same  how could Ashok Singhal ask Mulayam to intervene in this  issue," he said. Azam Khan said it is now a history that India witnessed  RDX and AK-47 after demolition of Babri Mosque.  Innocent people lost their lives in communal strife that  rocked country time and again and for this those people  should be held responsible who demolished the Mosque.
