Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, targeted Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati charging them of aggressively promoting his family in politics and engaging narrow caste politics respectively. He reiterated his charge against the BSP that Mayawati did not allow the dalit leadership in the state to mature and grow.
Addressing a congregation at Munshiganj in his lok Sabha constituency Amethi, Gandhi said, “When the SP comes to power in UP, only a particular caste and the leader’s family members are promoted while in Mayawati regime, the benefits only remains with a handful of dalits.”
He said that except for Mayawati, no other dalit leader has emerged in the BSP while Mulayam is the leader of a family. “Mayawati only used the dalits for her own vested interest,” he charged.
Claiming that Congress will form the government in UP after 2017 Assembly polls, Gandhi said, “We will form the government with the support of all castes and communities and will work for the interests of all sections of the society.’’
The Amethi MP also assured the employees of the Rajiv Gandhi Arogoya Centre that he will look into the matter to reopen the closed centre. “The centre is in the name of my father and I will do whatever is required for running it,” he promised.
Earlier the Congress leader, who is on a two-days visit to his Parliamentary constituency, held a ‘ Janata Durbar’ to listen to the grievances of his voters on Saturday.
Hundreds of people thronged the Munshiganj guest house since morning and queued up to meet their MP. Congress Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, who also met Gandhi, said that, “ Rahul Gandhi has directed leaders of the state to start preparing for the UP Assembly polls.”
On the completion of his two-day visit to Amethi, the Congress vice-president left for Delhi from the Amausi airport in lucknow late on Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, UP Mining minister and MlA from Amethi Assembly seat, Gayatri Prasad Prajapati attacked Rahul Gandhi for his comment against Mulayam Singh Yadav. “Rahul has lost his mental balance. The SP government was working for every section of the society. In Amethi too, the SP government has carried out development which were not done by the Congress in the last 65 years.”
