Taking a cue from the brave step of the gangrape victims of Bulundshahr, who chose to report the ghastly incident to the police and bring the culprits to justice without caring for social stigma, many more rape victims are now coming forward to get their offenders punished.
On directions of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, now the police are also showing more sensitivity and getting cases relating to rape and molestation registered and initiating legal action on this count.
In a fresh case reported from Rampur, a resident of Patwai area lodged a report with the police on Wednesday night that his 14-year-old daughter was taken to a secluded place by Babu Khan and Sazid of Echaura hamlet and raped about a year back. They also shot a video clip of the nefarious act and released the girl threatening to upload the clip if she complained to the police. The complainant said to prevent disrepute to the family, he did not report it matter. Recently, the miscreants uploaded the clip and hence he decided to get a case registered. A case was registered and efforts are underway to nab the culprits.
In another case reported with Karvi police station in Chitrakut, Radha Gupta (named changed) of Sobha Singh Ka Purwa locality alleged that she gave an application to the DM for redressal of grievances in which her mobile number was also given. On July 7, she received a call from two separate mobile numbers and the caller identifying himself as the DM’s gunner Manoj Kumar Singh told her that the DM has asked him to get her problem redressed. The ‘gunner’ later reached her house in the evening and took her to a house in Reserve Police lines and raped her through the night. The next morning he let her go and threatened that she would have to pay heavily if she comlained to the police. After mulling over the pros and cons, she finally reported the matter to the police on Wednesday evening.
SP, Chitrakut said that the victim’s call detail record confirmed that calls were made to her from the mobile of the accused. A case was registered in this connection and efforts were on to detain the accued and interrogate him.
Menwhile in Sultanpur, a minor girl alleged that she went to relieve herself on July 21 when a Bolero borne miscreant identified as Shree Ram kidnapped her before raping her. last Tuesday, she somehow managed to slip out from his clutches and returned home. Meawhile, the girl’s father lodged a report of her disappearance on July 22. A case was registered and investigations are on.
In Varanasi, in a suspected case of rape and murder, the body of a nine-year-old girl missing since Wednesday evening was recovered from a well on Thursday morning. The girl hailing from Kadi Chowk area left the house to relive herself on Wednesday evening and went missing. Some locals found her body lying in the village well and informed the family. The body was taken out and sent for autopsy. Investigations are underway.
In Hapur, a 26-year-old woman from Kotwali Dehat area alleged that two unknown miscreants called on her mobile and later reached home on Wednesday night. She said that the duo later kidnapped her and took her to a nearby jungles were they took turns with her. The woman returned home in the wee hours of Thursday and reported the matter. A case was registered but no one was arrested so far.
