The brief monsoon session of the both the houses of the state legislature , the state assembly and the legislative Council adjourned sine die on Thursday.  The state assembly was scheduled to have only six sittings. The session was extended for two days on the demand of the opposition parties.

The monsoon session commenced on August 14. The proceedings of the first day were adjourned after paying homage to former President APl Abul Kalam. The monsoon session was stormy for the government as the opposition parties sought to corner the state government on several fronts including the poor law and order, power crisis and the farmer’s distress caused by the unseasonal rains.  The Congress also stalled the proceedings of the house for a day to protest against the brutal police lathi charge on its party leaders in front of the Vidhan Sabha where the party had organized a protest demonstration.

The brief session besides witnessing heated debate on law and order, power crisis also transacted important legislative business. The assembly passed many legislations including amending the UP lokayukt Act, UP Era University , upgrading the lohia medical institute as University  and also the first supplementary budget for the current fiscal 2015-16 of over Rs 19,000 crore.
