The carcass of twenty eight monkeys were found in the water tank of a closed UP Hath Kargha Nigam unit on Wednesday at Khalilabad tehsil of Sant Kabirnagar district. The Range Forest Officer of Khalilabad Alok Saxena while talking to “The Pioneer” said that he had received information in the morning about the monkeys and after he reached the spot the team found 28 carcass of monkeys. He said that a postmortem was conducted after which the monkeys were cremated.
Giving the details, the Range Forest Officer said “The unit had been abandoned and the carcasses was found in the water tank over head. The carcass were of 11 adult monkeys and 17 young ones. We are assuming that the monkeys entered through a hole in the water tank and were unable to come out and thus died of starvation. The postmortem report will be submitted on Thursday “ said Saxena.
He said that the water tank had a few holes through which these monkeys entered and that they had informed the administration in this regard. The depth of the water tank is about twelve feet. The Range Officer said that no case had been lodged in this regard. “We have lodged no case in this regard because the death of the monkeys appears natural. Though we have not received the post mortem report the doctor who has conducted the postmortem has informed verbally that the monkeys died of starvation” he said.
