Monkeypox: CM asks Health officials to be alert, spread awareness

Published on:

Owing to the rise in cases of monkeypox across the globe, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the Health department officials and hospital administrations to be alert and make the public aware of its symptoms and provide treatment of monkeypox as per the guidelines of the Government of India.

So far, not a single case of monkeypox has been reported in Uttar Pradesh, but in the wake of its danger, the state govt has asked the departments concerned to keep an eye on people returning from abroad.

Instructing top Health officials to monitor people with rashes (not necessarily the disease), especially those who have recently returned from abroad where monkeypox patients have been reported or they have come in contact with such patients.

"People with suspected symptoms should get their blood tested," the chief minister said.

Instructions have also been issued to set up 10-bed wards in state medical college hospitals so that monkeypox patients could be admitted and treatment could be started immediately.

The Health department is keeping vigil across the state and has issued advisory for symptoms and treatment of monkeypox. Samples of suspected patients will be sent to labs located in Pune.

What is Monkeypox

Monkeypox, a viral infection, has been reported to be causing a mild infection. The virus spreads from person to person mainly through exposure to respiratory droplets, which can enter the body through mucous membranes in eyes, mouth and nose. It can also be transmitted when a person contacts infected lesions or body fluids.

Some of the symptoms include fever, intense headache, lymphadenopathy (swelling of lymph nodes), back pain, myalgia (muscle aches) and an intense asthenia (lack of energy).
