Dubbing Bharatiya Janta Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as an accused of Gujarat riots, Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma claimed that Modi will be in jail in six months time if Rahul Gandhi becomes the Prime Minister.
Dismissing the claims of the BJP and Narendra Modi, the Congress leader, known for his aggressive political remarks, said it was hard to accept that a dictator like Mr Modi could become the country's prime minister.
Talking to reporters late on Thursday night in Balrampur district, local MP from Gonda, said there was no chance of Mr Modi becoming the prime minister. "On the contrary, he will be seen in jail within six months if Rahul becomes the PM," he maintained. Making rather unsavoury comments against the BJP, he asked the people and the opposition parties to safeguard the country and the temple of democracy from 'dogs'.
Substantiating his allegation on Modi about the latter being a dictator, the senior Congress leader said it was for everyone to see how the BJP veterans were subjected to humiliation after Mr Modi's elevation in the party. Verma, who was on tour of Balarampur and Gonda districts falling in his parliamentary constituency of Gonda, vented the same sentiments at an election meeting in Itiyathok township on Thursday evening. He also rapped Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav for being ''enemy of secularism'' along with Mr Modi. He charged that SP and BJP were equally responsible for the Muzaffarnagar riots and said the people of the state would teach them a lesson in the lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, two high-profile candidates from Mathura lok Sabha seat, BJP's Hema Malini and Jayant Chaudhary of Rashtriya lok Dal, have been warned by the Election Commission for violating model code of conduct. Cine actress Hema Malini and Chaudhary, RlD chief Ajit Singh's son, have been issued warning by the EC for getting published advertisements in newspapers without thecertification of Media Certification and Monitoring Committee {MCMC}, District Magistrate-cum-Returning Officer Vishal Chauhan said in Mathura on Friday. Both the candidates have been instructed not to repeat this mistake in future and get their advertisements duly certified by MCMC, three days prior to publishing, Chauhan added.
