Modi, Shah taking country on ride: Rahul Gandhi

Congress president Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah on Wednesday, alleging them of taking the country for a ride through fake promises.

"Bullet train could be termed as a magical train as the project will never be completed. If it is done, it would be under Congress regime," Rahul said.

"Modijee always slips into silent mode when any big issue comes up. He never uttered a word when the Chinese Army invaded Doklam and laddakh," he said.

Rahul also took on Amit Shah asking how his son's company grew from Rs 50,000 to Rs 80 crore in three months.

"You all questioned at tea stalls and at gatherings about how Jay Shah's Rs 50,000 investment gave him Rs 80 crore in three months," he told party workers at Tiloi, while informing workers and leaders about the Shakti project launched by the party.

Gandhi is on a two-day visit to his Parliamentary constituency of Amethi and interestingly, Shah wsas also in Mirzapur-Varanasi in UP on Wednesday.

The Congress chief also raised the issue of corruption in Rafael Defence deal and asked that people should question the BJP on corruption of Union minister Piyush Goel.

Rahul said there were three challenges before the country - unemployment, farmers problem and inflation, and all three were related to each other.

Gandhi further said that the United States and China were two super powers in the world and India was the third super power in reckoning. "But if the issues of unemployment, farmers problem and inflation were not sorted out, then India will lag behind China and the US," he said. Rahul said that the BJP government at the Centre did not waive off a single paisa of farmers, but Rs 2 lakh crore of 15 industrialists friends were waived, on the instruction of the PM.

The Congress chief charged Modi of breaking the 'backbone' of small traders while benefiting big businessmen.

"Modiji snatched money from your pockets through GST and demonetisation and gave it away to Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi," he said in his address to a gathering of party activists from Assembly segments of RaeBareli at Fursatganj.

Talking about the Shaki project, Rahul said that it would help party cadres to get help from the leadership during work in far-flung areas. "later, we will open it for general masses, so that they can register their problems and get it redressed," he said.

During his visit, the Congress chief went to the house of late Abdul Sattar at Dhangai village, to pay condolences to his family. Sattar, a farmer, died at the wheat procurement centre on May 4, after waiting there for two days, as his produce was not taken by the agencies.

On his arrival at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in lucknow, Rahul was accorded a warm welcome by Congressmen on Wednesday morning.

State Congress chief Raj Babbar and senior leaders like legislature party leader Ajay Kumar lalu, MlC Deepak Singh, Jitin Prasada, Pramod Tiwari and Vinod Kumar Mishra welcomed him by presenting bouquets.

Around 62 Congressmen were allowed to enter the airport premises to welcome the party chief while hundreds of others waited outside raising slogans in his support. After meeting the leaders, Rahul, accompanied by Raj Babbar, left for Amethi by road.
