A day after calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “cowardly and weak” prime minister, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday said Modi “is the most arrogant prime minister of India’’.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday addressed election meetings in Siddarthnagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar and Bhadohi districts.
“I have not seen a more cowardly, weak and arrogant prime minister than Narendra Modi in my life,” the Congress general secretary said at an election meeting in Siddarthnagar on the last day of campaigning for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha election, on Friday.
Priyanka said Modi had failed to answer people’s questions on his “unfulfilled” promise to generate two crore jobs and double farmers’ income.
“The power of politics does not come from big campaigns and television shows. People are the biggest in democracy. One should have the power to listen to and solve people’s problems. He (Modi) should have the power to listen to the opposition. Leave aside listening to you, this prime minister does not know how to reply to you,” she said.
“You have been cheated. He (Modi) had promised to check corruption, but now he has been exposed as corrupt. He hides the reality with his campaigns,” she said.
“The prime minister used to talk about his 56-inch chest... but he should also say whether he has a heart or not and give its measurement. He has sympathies in his heart for industrialists, not for people,” she said.
Priyanka said while farmers were suffering, loans worth Rs 5.5 lakh crore of big industrialists were waived by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government and the prime minister’s friends had registered profits of Rs 10,000 crore in the last five years.
Priyanka also claimed that farmers were not paid their claims of crop insurance by the insurance companies and they were battling the stray cattle menace.
“The present NDA government has done nothing to solve the traders’ GST problems and the farmers are also facing severe harassment,” she said, and added, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to deliver during his five-year rule and the condition of the people of the country has deteriorated.
“In five years, five crore jobs were lost and 24 lakh vacancies in government were not filled. About 50 lakh people lost their jobs due to demonetisation,” she said.
Talking about the farmer’s problem, Priyanka said when farmers of a number of states, including Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Maharashtra, went to Delhi to stage a protest, the prime minister did not come out of his bungalow for even five minutes to hear their grievances but he was more interested in meeting the Chinese premier.
“Now they are highlighting the ‘Kisan Samman Yojana’ and promising Rs 6,000 per year. When the Congress asked the government to waive farm loans, it was said that there was no money in the economy,” she said.
The Congress general secretary promised to simplify the goods and services tax if her party was voted to power.
Priyanka said if Congress came to power, MGNREGA would be strengthened and the number of guaranteed working days would be increased from 100 to 150 and the labourers would get wages regularly.
Priyanka said her party would make all sections of the society stand on their own, the poor would be given Rs 72,000 per year andre the NYAY scheme and 24 lakh vacant government posts would be filled by March, 2020.
She also promised a a separate budget for farmers.
