Rebuking all demand, state government awarded posting to senior IPS officer Rajesh Modak as the new senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) of Varanasi besides shunted out the SSP of Saharanpur and Varanasi.
According to official communiqué of the government released on Thursday evening, Modak has been made the SSP of Varanasi. Modak, who was recently suspended and later reinstated for beating up three policemen in Moradabad was given a prize posting. The Pioneer already published that government would soon reward Modak with some key post as he had displayed his Rs loyalty’ towards Samajwadi Party leaders by brutally assaulting his staff members just as they kept SP candidate from Moradabad for Parliamentary elections waiting when he arrived to meet Modak last month.
The former SSP Moradabad had thrashed his three police followers for not informing him about the presence of a senior Samajwadi Party leader at his residence. UP governor had also taken cognizance over the incident and had sought a detail report on the incident but government overlooked this request. Several social organisation have also demanded action against Modak and even submitted their representation before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Chief Minister. However, government overlooked the criminal as well as inhuman conduct of the officer and decided to reward him after they revoked his suspension without even conducting any enquiry in the matter on last Sunday. For just an eye-wash, IG (Special Task Force) Asheesh Gupta, informed the media that a Departmental Enquiry has been recommended against Modak and soon some officer will be appointed for the purpose. However, now what enquiry will any officer conduct when the government itself rewarded Modak is anyone’s guess.
The communiqué of the government also carried removal of SSP Varanasi Ajay Mishra who has been posted him as SP Anti-Corruption Organisation in lucknow while SSP Saharanpur Devendra Kumar Choudhury was shunted out and made as deputy director ,traffic in the state capital. Ajay Mishra was removed after SP Traffic of Varanasi Gopesh Nath Khanna complained against him for interfering into his work and snatching his security and vehicle. SP ,CB-CID Upendra Kumar Agarwal will be the new SSP of Saharanpur.
Meanwhile social activist Nutan Thakur has criticized the unwarranted support provided by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the Home Minister, to powerful ex SSP of Moradabad Rajesh Modak, instead of supporting the three helpless police personnel beaten by the SSP. In her letter to the CM, Thakur said that this is an extremely serious matter related with Human Rights of poor and helpless people where instead of the individuals the overall system is under questioning, where despite the brazen misuse of authority by a senior officer, the entire system seems to be saving him, instead of standing for the rights of the poor victims.
She said that the matter is all the more important because CM is himself the Home Minister. Hence she has requested the CM not to look at this matter through political colours but hear the voice of his conscience so as to help the three victimized policemen and to punish Modak as per provisions of law. She also sent a complaint to the National Human Rights Commission regarding the entire episode.
